Chemical dependency (including alcohol) rates are generally higher for health care professionals. Pharmacists have a one in eight ratio compared to the national ratio of one in ten persons caught up in the cycle of addiction. One out of three pharmacists are likely to come in contact with a chemically dependent pharmacist during their professional lifetime. Unfortunately, this is a fact of life and our goal is to educate, prevent, intervene, and support pharmacists/ pharmacy students/ and pharmacy technicians experiencing problems that threaten their well-being and the quality practice of pharmacy within the community.
